NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fight between two men at a Midtown subway station Sunday morning ended when one man bit off the tip of a finger of the other, police say.
The pair were riding a southbound Q train around 4:30 a.m. when the fight began. It spilled out onto the platform of the station at Seventh Avenue and West 49th Street, police say.
A 36-year-old man had the tip of his right index finger bitten off. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
His fingertip was recovered at the scene.
The suspect, a man in his 40s, ran off. Police were still looking for him Sunday.
Law enforcement sources tell 1010 WINS that both men may have been homeless.
One straphanger, Corey, said he was surprised by the violence.
"This mayhem. These train stations need more surveillance. They really do," he said.
About five hours earlier, a 23-year-old man was slashed across the face on a 3 train in Harlem, according to police.
This past week the MTA voted to hire 500 new transit officers.
