NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Attorneys were delivering their opening statements on Monday, in the trial of the five suspects accused in the killing of Lesandro 'Junior' Guzman-Feliz.
Prosecutors say the five were among those who dragged the 15-year-old out of a Bronx bodega and attacked him with a machete, because they mistakenly believed he was a member of a rival gang.
Antonio Rodriguez Hernandez Santiago, Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, Jose Muniz, Manuel Rivera, and Elvin Garcia are facing several charges including murder, manslaughter, and gang assault.
Nine other suspects are accused in the attack, but did not stab Junior. They will be tried later, and are scheduled for a pretrial hearing on June 17.
Supporters of Junior's family have been instructed not to wear clothing referencing the teen in the courtroom.
