NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- As part of "Operation Legend," President Trump said Wednesday that he is sending federal agents to various U.S. cities to combat rising crime.

"Today I'm announcing a surge of federal law enforcement into communities plagued by violent crime," Trump said. "Frankly, we have no choice but to get involved."

The agents -- who will be from the FBI, DEA and ATF -- will be deployed to Chicago and Albuquerque to "support besieged communities."

Troops have already been sent to Kansas City.

"We will be adding cities in the weeks ahead," Attorney General William Barr said at the press conference with Trump Wednesday afternoon.

Department of Homeland Security officers have already been sent to Portland, Oregon, to deal with protests there.
