NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President Donald Trump on Thursday aftermoon slammed the groups of young men seen in recent gone-viral videos tossing buckets of water at NYPD officers, calling it a "a total disgrace" and "completely unacceptable."
He also took aim at Mayor Bill de Blasio: "We love our Law Enforcement Officers all around this great Country," Trump tweeted. "What took place in NYC with water being tossed on NYPD officers was a total disgrace. It is time for @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio to STAND UP for those who protect our lives and serve us all so well."
The president continued, "What took place was completely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. Bill de Blasio should act immediately!"
Well, de Blasio didn't stay quiet for too long, writing a series of tweets directed at the president.
"@realDonaldTrump knows NOTHING about his hometown," the mayor wrote. "He never lived a real New York City life. He should get off Twitter and stick to what he’s good at: watching TV when he claims to be working."
He continued, "Here are the facts: New York City is the safest big city in America — and we got there because our NYPD officers and our communities worked together to drive crime to all-time lows. That’s real work that we’ve done that ACTUALLY protects our officers.
And a subsequent tweet read, "Crime’s gone down year after year in New York City and it’s not just because you finally left town."
Three people have been arrested so far in the water-dousing incidents.
