"People can't get enough of this. Great people!" Trump wrote as he retweeted video by News 12 Long Island reporter Kevin Vesey.
Vesey captioned his video: "The level of anger directed at the media from these protestors was alarming. As always, I will tell a fair and unbiased story today."
In the video, protesters demanding the reopening of New York's economy can be seen confronting Vesey as he walks down a sidewalk in Commack on Thursday.
"I'm just trying to get by on the sidewalk, that's all," Vesey can be heard saying at the beginning of the video.
"Well you shouldn't be here, you're fake news," one woman responds. "You stopped the airing the Trump briefings and you keep airing Cuomo briefings. Go home, you're fake news."
Then a stream of protesters begin hounding Vesey over the media's coverage of the coronavirus, the video shows.
"You're fake news! You're destroying Suffolk and Long Island," another woman is heard saying.
"You are the enemy of the people," a man shouts.
"Fake news coming through! Fake news coming through!" another man is heard yelling.
"You're disgusting," a woman with a "small business is essential" sign says.
In another retweet of the video, Trump echoed the chants of the protesters: "FAKE NEWS IS NOT ESSENTIAL!"
"I'll probably never forget what happened today," Vesey said in a separate tweet. "I was insulted. I was berated. I was practically chased by people who refused to wear masks in the middle of a pandemic. All the while, I was there to tell THEIR story. Here's the finished product."
According to News 12, the pro-Trump group that organized the rally, Setauket Patriots, later apologized.
