TSA: 3 screeners at JFK, 1 at Newark test positive for coronavirus

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Transportation Security Administration announced Friday that a third screening officer at JFK Airport had tested positive for the coronavirus days after announcing two other officers at the airport and one checked baggage screener at Newark Airport had tested positive.

The JFK screening officer last worked at a Terminal 4 checkpoint on the evening of March 15, the TSA said.


According to NY1 reporter Michael Herzenberg, the officer does not come in close contact with passengers, but his mother also works a Terminal 7 checkpoint. She was "sent home because she looked very ill."

Another officer at JFK Airport last worked March 12 in Terminal 5 in the evening in the Checked Baggage Room, the TSA said Wednesday.

The third officer at JFK last worked March 12 in Terminal 4 in rhe Checked Baggage Room in the evening. 

The screener at Newark last worked on March 14 at Terminal A in the Checked Baggage Room with a shift of 4 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., according to the TSA.

The TSA has published a map that indicates which airports has TSA officers that have tested positive for the potentially-deadly virus. 

"TSA understands that COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is on the minds of travelers and the general public," reads a message on its website. "To that end, we have established a map for the purpose of notifying the public about airports where TSA officers have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus."
