NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Uber will suspend its pool option in the US, Canada, London and Paris in attempt to "flatten the curve" of coronavirus, the company announced Tuesday.

The pool option in Uber allowed riders to save money by sharing rides with other users in their vicinity.

"We are in contact with local leaders globally and expect to take similar action when needed elsewhere," the company tweeted.

"We want to help ensure the safety of everyone in our cities while being available for essential travel needs," the company also tweeted. "Because of this, we are reminding riders, with in-app messages, to travel only when necessary and take steps to protect themselves and their drivers."

The company also announced changes to its food delivery service, Uber Eats. The company said Monday that it would waive delivery fees, allow all restaurants to be paid daily instead of weekly, offer protections for drivers and donate food to first responders and health care workers.
