NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A condemned, abandoned building under construction in Manhattan partially collapsed Sunday afternoon, but the NYPD says no injuries were reported.
The three-story building collapsed just before 12 p.m. on 52nd Street near Eighth Avenue in midtown.
"Thankfully the workers were at lunch," Council Speaker Corey Johnson tweeted.
Johnson said the building was recently the subject of a vacate order.
Citizen App video shows firefighters and mangled scaffolding at the scene of the collapse.
The Buildings Department last week ordered Therapy, a popular gay bar, and Stiles Farmers Market to close down and vacate the premises because the abandoned building appeared unstable.An order posted on the Buildings Department website said the businesses were "within the collapse zone,'' and that the abandoned building was "unsafe and has potential of collapse.''
The NYPD said West 52nd Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues, is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic "for the forseeable future."The Buildings Department is investigating the collapse.
