NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An 87-year-old woman fell to her death from a 17-story building that is a part of NYCHA's Alfred E. Smith Houses complex in Lower Manhattan, Monday morning, police said.

The victim's name was not immediately released, but police say the incident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Authorities say the victim was found in the rear courtyard of the building where she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

"I guess she felt that her life was no longer worth living. I don't understand it," a NYCHA workertold the New York Post following the tragic incident.

The woman did not have any ID on her at the time, authorities say.

It is unkown what floor the woman jumped from, or whether she left a note.
