Woman, 92, found on Queens street in possible strangling, suspect sought by police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police seek a man in connection to the death of a 92-year-old woman that occurred Monday night in Queens. 

Around midnight on Jan. 6, authorities discovered Maria Fuertes, 92, lying on the street unconscious and unresponsive in front of 127th Street in the Richmond Hill section. 

EMS transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officials say the man approached Fuertes from behind, assaulted her and knocked her to the ground, where she sustained trauma to her neck and back.

The Medical Examiner will determine Fuertes' cause of death.

Police are investigating the incident at as homicide.

The suspect is described as having a medium complexion, average build, black hair and brown eyes. Police say he was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark colored pants, and black shoes.
