Woman, 25, killed outside Bronx school, Uber driver wounded in Brooklyn in a dozen NYC shootings overnight

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 25-year-old woman was killed outside a Bronx school and an Uber driver was wounded by a gun-wielding cyclist in Brooklyn as police responded to at least a dozen shootings across the city Friday into Saturday morning.

The 25-year-old woman was shot and killed around 5:20 a.m. in the Melrose section, police said.

Officers responding to a call about an assault found the 25-year-old unconscious with a gunshot wound to her head on E. 152nd Street, outside Public School 1 Courtlandt School.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified. Police said no arrests have been made.

A few hours earlier in Brooklyn, an Uber driver was shot. at W. 24th Street and Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island.

Police said the driver was stopped by a man on a bike around 10:30 p.m. Some sort of argument happened before the cyclist shot the driver in the torso.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear. The woman was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

There have been more than 900 shootings with 1,100 people struck by gunfire in the city so far this year, compared to 500 shootings with nearly 600 people struck in 2019.
