NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Staten Island is paying tribute to one of the musical groups the borough gave birth to.

Over the weekend, the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and Targee Street  was renamed "Wu-Tang Clan District" with the unveiling of a sign bearing the new moniker.

Debi Rose, a New York City Council Member who represents Staten Island's North Shore, described the recognition as a "celebration" of the group's "inspiration to the world."

"Wu-Tang’s story is one of inspiration, and I was proud to commemorate their story and their contributions with the highest honor the City Council can give," Rose wrote on Twitter.

Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah attended the unveiling of the sign, and told the crowd, "First of all, people don't get to make it 25 years later. But, coming from Staten Island I want to tell y'all: Yo, anything is possible."

He added, "I never saw this day coming. I knew we were some ill MCs, but I didn't know that it'd take it this far."
