NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Yankees Stadium will host the Uptown Drive-In this summer amid the shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In an attempt to fill the void of many of the events that will be canceled this summer MASC Hospitality Group will help turn the Bronx bombers' parking lot into a drive-in theater.
"It's a food festival meets cultural event meets classic drive-in," co-owner Marco Shalma told CNN. "We wanted to create a space where people can eat, watch films or comedians, play bingo and even have date nights in a way that is safe."
According to Shalma, the events will showcase local talent and food.
A lifted stage with large screens will be built at Yankee Stadium's largest lot, where talent will perform with a PA system streaming sound into the attendee's cars.
Other events will include karaoke nights, movie screenings, and themed nights, like Latin or LGBTQ night.
MASC hopes to hire approximately 40 people to help with food services and security.
The event was initially planned to run every weekend after July 4 until August.
After an overwhelming interest, Shalma says the group is looking into increasing the number of days.
"We had more than 9,000 people register to attend already and so many amazing people jumping in to offer partnerships," he said.
Only 200 vehicles will be allowed to register for each event and cars will be asked to park 10 feet away from each other in order to maintain social distancing guidelines.
Car-side food service is also being considered to prevent attendees from getting out of their cars to pick up food.
Tickets can be purchased here, although ticket costs have not yet been decided.
MASC is working to make sure they're affordable.
