YONKERS (1010 WINS) -- A 12-year-old boy is in grave condition after shooting himself in the head with an illegal handgun, according to multiple reports.
The boy was found on the bedroom floor of a home on Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers Sunday afternoon, police told ABC 7.
Police say a preliminary investigation suggests the boy was home alone with a younger neighbor and found the loaded handgun.
They say he shot the gun and one of the bullets hit a window. The second hit the boy in the head.
The boy was at an area hospital on Monday with a wound to his right temple. He is not expected to survive, ABC 7 reports.
Investigators found a loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol at the home and are trying to figure out where it came from.
