NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – John Langley, the creator of the hit reality TV show “Cops,” has died at 78.
Langley’s reps told Variety that he died Saturday of an apparent heart attack.
Langley was competing in an off-road race in Baja, Mexico, at the time of his death, according to the report.
“Cops” was canceled last year amid nationwide protests over policing and racism in the U.S.
The blockbuster show became a cultural sensation after it premiered in 1989, running for over 30 years with more than 1,000 episodes and 32 seasons. It's credited with helping to usher in the era of reality TV.
