NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Bird Bird, who is permanently 6-years-old, got his COVID-19 vaccine Saturday, he announced on Twitter, just days after federal officials authorized emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine in kids 5 and over.

"I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it'll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy," the iconic big yellow bird from "Sesame Street" wrote.

Bird Bird appeared at a CNN town hall Saturday. He tweeted, "Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!"

President Joe Biden gave Bird Bird kudos for getting vaccinated, tweeting, "Good on ya, @BigBird. Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep your whole neighborhood safe."

But not everyone was as supportive as the president.

Republican senator Ted Cruz tweeted, "Government propaganda…for your 5 year old!"

Fox News personality Lisa Boothe, tweeted, "Brainwashing children who are not at risk from COVID. Twisted."
