NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — TSA agents confiscated two loaded guns from two different travelers two days in a row at Newark Liberty International Airport.

On both Wednesday and Thursday, TSA agents spotted handguns in carry-on bags going through the X-ray machine at Terminal B, according to officials.

A traveler from Brooklyn had a loaded 9mm handgun in his backpack on Wednesday.

The next day, a traveler from Garnerville, N.Y. was caught with another 9mm gun.

Authorities don’t believe the incidents were related.

In both cases, TSA alerted Port Authority police, who confiscated the weapons.

“Bringing a loaded gun to our checkpoints presents a security and safety concern,” said Thomas Carter, TSA’s Federal Security Director for New Jersey. “These two back-to-back gun catches bring our count to seven guns detected at our checkpoints this calendar year.”
