NYC man, 19, charged with DWAI after Southern State Parkway crash kills 2 passengers

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A 19-year-old man from Queens faces charges of manslaughter and driving on drugs after he crashed along the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County on Sunday night, killing two of his passengers, state police said.

Jaden Dsouza, 19, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, as well as manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault and aggravated vehicular homicide.

Dsouza and a surviving passenger, a 23-year-old Queens man, were hospitalized in serious condition after the crash in North Massapequa.

Two rear passengers—Hailey Dsouza, 21, and Crystal Alba-Figueroa, 23—were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the parkway, near Exit 30S.

According to police, Dsouza was driving a black 2016 Dodge Dart in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree along the shoulder.

Dsouza was entrapped inside of the vehicle, while Alba-Figueroa was ejected from the vehicle, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Southern State Parkway was closed in the area overnight amid an investigation but had reopened by morning.
