NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two people died after an accident on I-80 in Hackensack, New Jersey, involving a tractor-trailer and a box truck, according to New Jersey State Police.
At around midnight, an SUV struck the curbed median, entered the express lanes, and collided with the tractor-trailer which was traveling eastbound on the I-80. As a result, the tractor-trailer struck the center concrete median and entered the I-80 westbound express lanes. The tractor-trailer then collided with the box truck, causing the box truck to enter the I-80 westbound local lanes and catch fire. The second SUV then collided with the tractor-trailer.

Multiple people were injured and the box truck driver and his passenger died, state police confirmed.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 63-year-old male from Temple, Texas, and the passenger, a 60-year-old male from Killeen, Texas, suffered serious injuries and were transported to a hospital, police said. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries. There were no other reported injuries.
Videos and photos from the scene show the tractor-trailer jackknifed across the roadway and the box truck completely burned. The impact also knocked out concrete.
Police have not released the identities of the people killed in the crash.
The crash caused significant delays overnight and into the morning.
An investigation is ongoing.
