HARTFORD, Conn. (1010 WINS) — A second case of the omicron coronavirus variant was detected in Connecticut on Tuesday, contracted by another fully vaccinated man, Gov. Ned Lamont's office said.

The second case stemmed from a fully vaccinated man in his 20s from Fairfield County who developed mild symptoms on Dec. 2 and tested positive two days later by an at-home rapid antigen test and a molecular test.

In a press release, Lamont's office noted the man did not report any links to the NYC Anime 2021 Convention but traveled to New York City in the week before his symptoms started.

The state's first omicron variant case was possibly tied to last month's Anime Convention.

The governor's office did not say whether the 2nd case was contracted in New York City.

Connecticut's daily COVID-19 test positivity rate increased to over 8% on Tuesday, the state's highest metric rate since early January.
