3-alarm fire at NJ apartment complex displaces 9 families

CAMDEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A three-alarm fire broke out in a New Jersey apartment complex early Sunday morning, displacing at least nine families.

The fire was reported around 5 a.m. at the 80-unit Myrtle Place Apartments in Camden, according to the Camden Fire Department.

A spokesperson for the fire department said the fire was seen coming from the roof of the building and is believed to have started in Unit I6 with only one structure within the complex impacted.

A tweet from Red Cross New Jersey said the organization is providing 24 people with emergency assistance including “temporary lodging, food and clothing needs.”

The fire department said the blaze was put under control by 6 a.m.

While no injuries were initially reported, more information was not available.

The incident is still under investigation and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
