WESTBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – Three men were arrested in connection with recent burglaries at luxurious homes on Long Island—break-ins that allegedly netted the trio jewelry, gold and over $250,000 in cash, along with other valuables.
The three men—David Fernando Moreno Hernandez, 26, of Newark; Juan Pablo Orjuela-Saavedra, 23, of East Orange; and Ivan Stewar Ramirez-Villalobos, 25, of Newark—all face burglary charges in the second degree.
They were arrested in East Orange and Newark in recent days by Nassau County Police and the U.S. Marshals Service’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
The investigation also involved U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement’s Enforcement Removal Operations. Police said the men are from Colombia but didn’t elaborate on their legal status.
The four burglaries took place in Muttontown and Old Westbury on Nov. 29, Dec. 13 and Dec. 21 of last year, police said.
The men would enter the houses by breaking rear windows or sliding glass doors during the evening hours, when they were unoccupied, according to police, who said they would then ransack the bedrooms.
In total, they stole jewelry, diamonds, gold, designer handbags, safes, family heirlooms, and more than $250,000 in cash, police said.
Police attributed the arrests to “extensive surveillance” across the Tri-State area over a two-and-a-half month period.
