BAYONNE, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Three teens were charged in shooting that happened near a New Jersey light rail station earlier this month, authorities said.

Jancarlos Rivera, 18, was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, recklessly endangerment, criminal mischief, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun, officials said.

Two 17-year-old male teenagers, one of Bayonne and one of Newark, were each charged with possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun, Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato said.

Additionally, the teen from Bayonne was charged with receiving stolen property, while the Newark teen was charged with aggravated assault.

At 1 a.m. on Aug. 20, police responded to the vicinity of 21st Street and Avenue E in Bayonne after reports of shots fired.

Following an investigation, police found the two 17-year-olds were on a Hudson Bergen Lightrail train arriving at the 22nd Street platform when one of the teens encountered a group of people he had been feuding with, Amato said.

One of the teens then fired shots before fleeing the area. A second teen was seen brandishing a firearm and pointing it in the direction of the group, but did not fire a gun, Amato added.

Rivera also brandished his firearm and fired multiple rounds before everyone fled the area, authorities said.

Officials were unable to recover Rivera's handgun but he was taken into custody on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

The other two teens were taken into custody days later after and their handguns were recovered.

One of the handguns had been stolen from Virginia, Amato said.
