JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A five-alarm blaze burned through homes in Jersey City early Wednesday and caused a power line to fall on firefighters, injuring seven, officials said.

The flames broke out just before 3 a.m. at two homes located on Irving Street near Central Avenue and spread quickly.
An energized power line fell down on a fire truck as firefighters arrived, shocking at least four firefighters and a captain.
"They were either in the truck or near the truck. they were close enough where they had minor electrical shock," Jersey City Fire Chief Steven McGill said.
Seven firefighters were transported to Jersey City Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire left eighteen residents from six families homeless.
