7 hurt in 5 overnight shootings over 2-hour span across NYC: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Seven people were injured in multiple shootings across New York City overnight into Thursday as a surge in gun violence continues, according to the NYPD.

The five unrelated shootings occurred within about a two-hour span, officials said.


The first shooting occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Manhattan.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the thigh following a dispute at a building at the Grand Houses located on Amsterdam Avenue, in Morningside Heights, authorities said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital and was expected to survive.

Minutes later, at around 11:45 p.m., a second shooting occurred in Queens, police said.

A 26 and a 29-year-old man were injured during a shooting at the corner of Rockaway Parkway and 134th Street in South Ozone Park, officials said.

One victim was shot in the stomach and the other in the lower back. They were taken to local hospitals and are expected to survive.

At approximately midnight, gunfire erupted at the Jackson Houses, in the Melrose section of the Bronx where a 35-year-old man was hospitalized after he suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the NYPD.

Then at around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, a 26-year-old man was hospitalized after he was shot in the hand during a shooting on East 137th Street in Mott Haven section of the Bronx, authorities said.

The last shooting happened in Brooklyn at around 1:40 a.m., according to police.

Officials said two men were sitting in a car on Williams Avenue, in East New York, when they were approached by a group of men.

Someone then opened fire causing a 25-year-old man to suffer a gunshot wound to the shoulder and hand as well as a graze wound to the head, according to the NYPD.

A 33-year-old man suffered lacerations from broken window glass as a result of the shooting, police said.

Both men were hospitalized and expected to survive.

So far, no arrests had been made in any of the shootings and an investigation remains ongoing.
