NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police released surveillance video late Wednesday of a man sought for stabbing a Brooklyn taxi driver in the neck then driving off with his vehicle Monday afternoon.
The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. after the driver picked up the suspect at a taxi base in Bensonhurst, according to officials.
According to police, the driver was asked to take the suspect to Bay Parkway and 81st Street.
The attacker then brandished a knife and demanded the cabbie's phone and money, police said.
The attacker then stabbed the driver in the right side of his neck, causing a laceration, before grabbing the victim's phone, authorities said.
Officials said the unidentified man then jumped from the back seat into the front seat.
The cab driver fled to the backseat of the vehicle then managed to escape out the back door, authorities said.
The thief drove the stolen cab eastbound on Avenue S, striking several other vehicles, and abandoned it at West Ninth Street and Avenue S before fleeing on foot, officials said.
The suspect was described by police as a man around 30 years old.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
