WEST MILFORD, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An 18-year-old disappeared while swimming on Tuesday evening with a group of New Jersey teens in West Milford, and authorities recovered his body on Wednesday in the now-confirmed drowning.
Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Eshan Aman Ullah of Randolph was swimming with another 18-year-old boy, an 18-year-old girl and two 17-year-old boys at the Clinton Reservoir, part of the Newark Watershed Property in West Milford.
The group was swimming toward a small island in the reservoir when Ullah disappeared in the water, according to local police.
West Milford Police responded and divers entered the water for rescue operations while New Jersey State Police Northstar conducted a grid search on Tuesday, but operations were paused later in the night due to darkness.
The search resumed Wednesday with help from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department Scuba Unit and NJSP TEAMS, Aviation and Marine Units.
Ullah’s body was recovered by NJSP TEAMS divers with the use of state police and Passaic County Sheriff side scan sonar equipment at about 12:08 p.m.
“The West Milford Police Department extends our sympathies to the Ullah Family and their friends and asks that their privacy be respected at this time,” the West Milford Police Department said.
