CLIFTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Detectives took a teen boy into custody over threats to a New Jersey high school, staff members, and students earlier this week, authorities announced Wednesday.

Between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29, four incidents where threats of violence towards the Clifton High School were reported to police. Specific staff members, and specific students, were received by various recipients, officials said.

According to police, the threats were in the form of electronic communications, and were very detailed in nature, including threats of bombs, school shootings, and death threats towards individual students and staff members.

The threats prompted several security measures, temporary disruptions to the school day, modifications of scheduled events, large-scale responses from law enforcement, and numerous hours of collaboration with school administrators and law enforcement.

Investigators determined the identification of the 17-year-old responsible for these threats. The boy, a student at Clifton High School, was taken into custody at the school on Monday, Feb. 3.

Juvenile complaints were filed for 14 counts of terroristic threats and 6 counts of false public alarm, police said.

Additionally, he was ordered to be temporarily detained at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Detectives are also investigating several additional incidents, which are similar in nature, and date back to last year.

Additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues.
