SANDY HOOK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A judge on Wednesday dismissed drunk driving and reckless driving charges against Bruce Springsteen after he agreed to pay a $500 fine for drinking alcohol in a closed section of a New Jersey park this past November.
At a virtual arraignment Wednesday morning, Springsteen pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, but did plead guilty to consuming alcohol in a closed area.
The judge dismissed the charges to which the singer pleaded not guilty, but fined him $500 — plus $40 in court fees — for the third charge.
"I think I can pay that immediately, your honor," the singer said of the fine, according to the Asbury Park Press.
Springsteen was arrested on Nov. 14 after a ranger at Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey allegedly spotted him drinking a shot of Patron tequila with fans before hopping on his motorcycle and starting the engine.
When the ranger asked Springsteen if he planned to drive away, the singer said he did, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Springsteen, who told the officer he had taken two shots of tequila in the past 20 minutes, "smelt strongly of alcohol coming off of his person and had glassy eyes," the ranger wrote in the affidavit.
He was also "visibly swaying back and forth," and refused to take a breathalyzer test, he wrote.
