PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A cluster of Legionnaires’ disease cases in northern New Jersey are being investigated by the state Department of Health.

The disease was found in Passaic, Paterson and Wayne in Passaic County as well as in Bergen County.

At least seven cases are confirmed and one is suspect, according to officials.

A possible source of the outbreak was not immediately identified.

Legionnaires’ disease, a type of pneumonia, is contracted when people breathe in small droplets of water contaminated with the Legionella bacteria.
