Connecticut reports 15 new COVID-19 deaths as state officially rolls back to 'Phase 2.1'

HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut reported 15 new COVID-19 deaths on Friday as the state officially rolled back its reopening to "Phase 2.1."

The 15 new fatalities brought the state's death toll to 4,671, Gov. Ned Lamont tweeted.


Of the 29,563 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Thursday, 1,065, or 3.6 percent, were positive, he said.

As of Thursday, 402 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, up by 22 from Wednesday.

Phase 2.1 took effect at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and includes the following restrictions:

• Private indoor and outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people.
• Restaurants are only allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity, with a maximum of six people per table.
• Capacity at event venues is limited to 25 people indoors and 50 outdoors.
• Restaurants must close by 9:30 p.m., with last call at 10 p.m. Takeout and delivery is still allowed after 9:30 p.m.
• Capacity at performing arts venues and movie theaters is limited to 100 people.
• Capacity at hair salons, nail salons and other personal service businesses remains at 75 percent.
• Religious gatherings are capped at either 50 percent capacity or 100 people. Virtual services are encouraged.

The state on Thursday also issued a public health advisory urging Connecticut residents to stay home from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, barring essential trips.
