HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Nearly 500 people in Connecticut were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Sunday, marking the highest number of hospitalizations the state has recorded since the end of May.
As of Sunday evening, 496 people in Connecticut were hospitalized with the virus, up by 94, Gov. Ned Lamont said at a news briefing.
The state has not reported a number higher than that since May 30, when 533 people were hospitalized, data shows.
"We've doubled the number of hospitalizations just in the last few weeks," Lamont said. "We're watching this carefully."
"We still have a lot of capacity in our regular hospital beds," he added. "But these numbers are concerning, and they're sort of reflective of what's going on around the country."
Of the 89,686 COVID-19 test results that came back in the state on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 3,338, or 3.72 percent, were positive, he said.
Connecticut also reported 27 new COVID-19 fatalities on those three days, bringing its death toll to 4,698.
