HARTFORD, Conn. (1010 WINS) — Connecticut shoppers will be able to buy some retail items without paying taxes for them next week, Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday.

The state’s annual “Sales Tax Free Week” kicks off Sunday, Aug. 15 and runs through Saturday, Aug. 21, Lamont said in a press release.

The tax holiday applies to “most clothing and footwear items” that cost less than $100, the release noted. A full list of items that either qualify or are exempt is available on the state’s website.

“Having this tax-free holiday helps working families stretch their dollar a little bit more during the busy back-to-school season, while giving businesses an extra boost to their bottom line,” Lamont said in a statement.

“I also encourage everyone taking advantage of this tax-free holiday to consider shopping at some of our locally-owned retailers and support Connecticut’s small business community,” he added.
