NEWARK (WCBS 880) – A convicted bank robber from Newark was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly robbing a cellphone store at gunpoint earlier this year.
Kenneth Graham, 49, was charged by indictment Thursday with one count of Hobbs Act Robbery and one count of using, carrying and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
Prosecutors allege Graham drew a gun and pointed it at an employee inside a cellphone store in East Orange back on Jan. 18.
Graham allegedly ordered the employee to put several cellphones and cash from the register into his bag before fleeing.
Surveillance video shows Graham entering a black Nissan Altima and driving away after the robbery, acting U.S. Attorney Rachael Honig said when announcing the indictment.
Back in 2007, Graham was convicted in connection with three armed bank robberies in New Jersey, prosecutors said.
Because of his past conviction, Graham faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison if he's convicted of the charge of using a firearm during a crime of violence. The maximum penalty is life in prison.
He also faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of the Hobbs Act robbery charge, prosecutors said.
