FAIRFIELD, Conn. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The body of a Connecticut man who has been missing since Sunday when the western part of the state was hit with as much as 10 inches of rain was discovered in a river near a submerged vehicle, police said.

Fairfield Police were notified just before 12:40 p.m. on Thursday by the Weston Police Department that there was a vehicle in the Aspetuck River, just behind the Aspetuck Falls in Fairfield.

An initial investigation determined that the vehicle owner was last seen at about 5 p.m. Sunday, and the vehicle was reportedly last seen in Wilton at about 10 p.m. the same evening.

It appeared the vehicle had been in the river for several days and was found unoccupied, with no one in or around the nearby water, prompting a recovery operation.

At about 5:24 p.m., the body of 59-year-old Robert Macisaac, of Weston, was found in the river near Bayberry Lane and Easton Road in Westport, authorities said.

The medical examiner will determine an official cause of death.

Police believe that the incident could be related to Sunday’s severe weather conditions, which also killed two Connecticut women and caused the evacuation of over 100 residents, though the exact reason the vehicle entered the river is yet unclear.

Evidence suggests that Macisaac was inside the vehicle when it entered the water, police said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Mr. Macisaac during this difficult time,” Fairfield Police said.
