CT inspector general's office investigating death of Mass. man in police custody

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT (1010 WINS) — The death of a Massachusetts man who died while in Connecticut police custody earlier this week is under investigation by the state’s inspector general’s office.

Kevin Doherty, of Boston, died Monday while in the custody of South Windsor Police. Doherty was arrested last Friday on family violence charges.

Dispatchers noticed Doherty was in distress around 12:20 p.m. Monday while he was in the South Windsor Police Department holding facility.

Officers responded to Doherty and found him unresponsive. They began CPR before Doherty was transported to Manchester Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m., according to the Connecticut Inspector General’s Office.

In a statement, Chief Lindstrom of the South Windsor Police Department said his agency’s, “thoughts and prayers to the Doherty family” and added, “his department is cooperating with the Office of Inspector General in its investigation.”

Doherty's manner of death has not yet been determined.
