Jennifer Wells-Jackson, 49, was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree breach of peace in connection with the incident that was allegedly caught on camera.

Officers responded to King/Robinson Interdistrict Magnet School on Fournier Street on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report of an assault, WTNH reports.

In a video obtained by the outlet, Wells-Jackson appears to be pulling 12-year-old Destinique James' hair as students in the classroom beg her to let go. She eventually does, appearing to push the victim's head.

Her mom, Destine James, told WTNH that she is outraged by the alleged altercation.

"There’s certain things you say and there’s certain things you don’t say, there’s certain things you do and certain things you’re not supposed to do especially when dealing with people’s children," she said. "At the end of the day, there’s no justification for putting your hands on someone’s child."

Wells-Jackson was released on a $20,000 bond and is expected to make her first court appearance next week.

New Haven Public Schools told WTNH that the district takes student safety "very seriously," adding that the school and the district are "cooperating fully" with investigators.
