MILFORD, Conn. (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a woman who pulled a knife on officers after stealing more than $1,800 worth of merchandise from an REI store in Connecticut last week.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 18, police were called to the REI on Boston Post Road in Milford for a report of a shoplifting.
Upon arrival, officials found 42-year-old Melissa Riley near the dumpsters, behind the Tropical Smoothie Café across the street, trying to hide the stolen merchandise, police said.
Riley attempted to flee when she noticed officers approaching her, cops said. Officers then gave Riley numerous commands to stop running and she "pulled a knife on officers," police said.
She continued to ignore the officer's commands and walked onto the Boston Post Road between traffic, attempting to get into two vehicles which were locked. Riley then gained access into a vehicle which was occupied by an innocent bystander who was able to exit the vehicle, officials said.
After ignoring commands to drop the knife, police ultimately tased Riley and the knife was removed from her hand.
She was taken into custody without further incident.
Police also found Riley with various drugs at the time of her arrest.
