NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo attempted to reprise his role Sunday, posting one of his COVID-19 press conferences to Twitter to remind New Yorkers to remain vigilant amid the spread of the omicron variant.

"Let's heed the lessons we learned in the early, horrific days of this pandemic and not go backwards," Cuomo posted on his personal Twitter account.

He added that all New Yorkers should "wear a [mask] in public indoor spaces, get vaccinated AND your booster shot."

The post on Twitter also featured a screenshot from one of his many COVID-19 press conferences that read: "Lesson to learn: An outbreak anywhere is an outbreak everywhere!"

The disgraced governor, who resigned in August amid multiple accusations of sexual harassment, ended the post saying, "And be #NYTough."

Throughout the pandemic, Cuomo delivered daily COVID-19 briefings to update residents on the state's handling of the virus and its variants.

The events soon became a must-watch on TV and Cuomo was even given an Emmy for "effective use of television during the pandemic." However, the award was later revoked after New York Attorney General Letitia James published a report saying her office had found credible evidence that Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women.

Cuomo's public service announcement came days after the World Health Organization identified the new omicron COVID-19 variant on Friday.

The discovery had already prompted Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign an executive order postponing non-essential surgeries in hospitals with limited capacity.

The current governor also posted her own advice to her Twitter account, telling New Yorkers to get vaccinated sooner rather than later.

"Omicron is just across the bridge in Ontario. It's not a question of if it comes to New York, but when," Hochul wrote. "To everyone who has not yet been vaccinated, and especially those in Western New York: There's no reason to wait. Get vaccinated."

In an update on Sunday, the governor revealed 90.3% of all adults in the state have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 80.5% of New Yorkers over the age of 18 have completed their vaccine series.
