WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man was arrested early Saturday morning for fleeing a traffic stop and intentionally crashing into a police car, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Just after midnight on Saturday, Suffolk County patrol officers pulled over Naquan Reid, 33, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima without a rear license plate.

A routine traffic stop ensued at the corner of Centerwood Street and Troy Avenue, but as officers were talking with Reid, he fled the scene in the Nissan, officials said.

The cops jumped back into their patrol car, and after a short while, relocated the Nissan and turned on their lights and sirens, authorities said.

Reid made a U-turn in the Nissan before intentionally smashing into the patrol car head on. He then continued driving eastbound down Lakeway Drive, cops said.

Police continued to canvass the area, and relocated the Nissan as Reid tried to turn right onto Straight Path from Fulton Street.

Yet again, Reid slammed the Nissan into the police car, before exiting the car and fleeing the scene on foot. Police said that he was apprehended a short distance away.

The two officers were treated at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage and released, officials said.

Reid was charged with reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawfully fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and related charges.

The defendant, of North Amityville, will be arraigned at a later date.
