NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A drunk Long Island woman was arrested after hitting a car as she parallel parked with her 8-year-old son inside in Wantagh on Wednesday, Nassau County Police Department said.
Police received a call around 3:30 p.m. for an auto accident with a disturbance on Wantagh Avenue.
Valerie Decker, 46, driving a 2017 Dodge Ram with her 8-year-old son in the car, struck a parked 2019 Infinity with a female passenger inside it as she tried to parallel park.
Decker left the scene and kept driving southbound.
Officers followed Decker, stopped her, and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law Stop at the intersection of Wantagh Avenue and Merrick Road.
She was arrested for DWI – Leandra's Law according to the police.
Her son was released into the custody of a family member.
No injuries were reported.
Decker is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less than 16 years and Endangering the Welfare of a Child and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
She will be arraigned on Thursday in Hempstead.
