NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A drunk driver and his passenger were seriously injured Sunday after he crashed into a pole on Sunrise Highway and split his car in two, with half it landing by a building, Nassau County police said.
The 28-year-old man was driving a black Toyota Camry westbound on Sunrise Highway in Freeport around 4 a.m. Sunday when he veered off the roadway and crashed into the pole near McKinley Place.
The force of the crash split the Camry in two, launching half of the car into a nearby building, police said.
When officers arrived, the found half of the vehicle on the roadway and the other half up against Avenue Sound at 249 W. Sunrise Highway.

The driver and his passenger, a 27-year-old man, were transported to an area hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, assault and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Police said he'd be arraigned when medically practical.
