NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A driver was fatally struck after being ejected from a car and run over by a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike early Sunday.
The accident occurred at 4:15 a.m. when the driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling north on the outer roadway's western spur near milepost 105.9 in Newark and was struck from behind by a Honda Accord, the New Jersey State Police said.
"The impact caused the Toyota to cross the roadway and strike the right guardrail. As a result of the crash, the driver of the Toyota was ejected [and] a tractor-trailer traveling north struck the driver," said Trooper Brandi Slota.
At this time, the victim's name has not been released.
Slota said no charges have been announced and the investigation is ongoing.
