NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said Tuesday that she was being hospitalized for a ruptured appendix.

“About a week ago (sadly during an interesting housing panel talk), I felt REALLY sick,” Quinn wrote on Twitter. “I’m now post a ruptured appendix and a surgery, and still in hospital.”

She also shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed with what appeared to be an ice pack across her forehead.

It remains unclear when Quinn will be released from the hospital.

Quinn, a Democrat, served as speaker of the New York City Council from 2006 to 2013.

After leaving public office, she went on to become the president and CEO of WIN, New York City’s largest provider or shelter and supportive housing for homeless families, especially women and children.

Quinn said Tuesday that she expects to be home soon and will resume her work soon thereafter.

“Hope to be home in a day or so,” she said. “If I haven’t been in touch-I will be!! Thank you!”
