FORT LEE, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Fort Lee High School was placed on lock down Tuesday morning after a student was stabbed multiple times, leaving him in critical condition, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
At 10:52 a.m., the Fort Lee Police Department responded after an officer assigned to the high school made an emergency radio call reporting the stabbing.
Once cops arrived at 3000 Lemoine Ave., they discovered that a male student was stabbed multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, officials said.
Officers apprehended the alleged assailant at the scene. The suspect is a fellow juvenile student and is currently in custody.
Fort Lee High School was placed on lockdown during the incident, and security measures were in place hours after the stabbing, as a precaution.
Parents and families of the school district were provided additional information by the Fort Lee Board of Education and police department, prosecutors said.
A note from the Board of Education obtained by NBC New York alerted parents that there was no present threat and that it was working on a dismissal plan.
"At this time, there is no immediate threat to the safety of our school community, and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. Due to the incident all roads leading to and from Fort Lee High School are closed. Please do not report to the school," the school board said.
The public was asked to avoid the area as the investigation continued.
