FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 39-year-old Georgia man was arrested Sunday after shooting a woman who tried to escape a New Jersey hotel room he was in with her, authorities said.
The man, Eder Gelin, was at the Franklin Township hotel with the 37-year-old victim and her two children, officials said.
Throughout the night, Gelin was allegedly drinking alcohol and became irate and threatening towards the woman before taking out a handgun and holding her at gunpoint for over an hour in front of her children, police said.
The victim told police she was able to escape from Gelin around 1:30 a.m., but he chased her into the hallway and shot her in the foot and hip. She was later transported to a local hospital by emergency responders and is expected to survive her injuries. Responding officers recovered a gun at the scene.
Gelin was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
