Girl, 9, killed in Newark fire, 2 other kids hospitalized

NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 9-year-old girl died and two other children were injured following a fire in Newark early Wednesday morning, the Essex County prosecutor's office said.

The flames broke out just before 2 a.m. at a three-story row house located at 28 Astor St., fire officials said.

The 9-year-old girl was taken to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The two other children were hospitalized, one was in critical condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
