Hit-run driver intentionally struck officer, cop cars on Long Island: police

NORTH LINDENHURST, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A driver intentionally struck an officer and multiple police cruisers on Long Island late Thursday before fleeing the scene, Suffolk County police said Friday.

The cop was struck around 7:30 p.m. while on foot on 50th Street in North Lindenhurst, according to police.

The driver crashed into multiple police vehicles on the residential street before driving away, police said.

The hit-and-run motorist remained at large Friday.

The officer was taken to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

The circumstances surrounding the assault are unclear, including if cops were engaging the driver in some way before the attack occurred.

It’s also unclear what department the injured officer is from.
