NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Essex County prosecutors launched an investigation into the discovery of human remains on Thursday afternoon in Newark
At about 2:45 p.m., Newark police received a report of human remains found on the 400 block of Elizabeth Avenue in Newark, authorities said.
Arriving officers located the body outside at that location.
The unidentified body was officially pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m. It was unclear how long the remains were there before they were discovered.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
There have been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
