NEWARK (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey will allow indoor sports to resume this weekend, Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday.

Murphy said indoor sports can begin Saturday with safety protocols in place.

The governor said all interstate youth sports competitions will continue to be prohibited, because interstate travel among teens is "risky" and provides "opportunities for the virus to spread."

There is an exception for interstate competitions for collegiate and professional sports teams.

Murphy said there were 4,664 new cases and 99 more deaths reported in the state since Tuesday.

Hospitalizations were at 3,727, with 701 patients in intensive care and 467 patients on ventilators. A total of 437 COVID patients were discharged and 428 were admitted.

Murphy also announced a new online hub for vaccine-related information: covid19.nj.gov/vaccine. He said it will be a landing page for the state's Vaccine Registration portal in the near future.
